What is a stock watchlist?

A stock watchlist is a short personal list of tickers you want to follow — companies you might buy later, ETFs you use as market benchmarks, or names in the news. Unlike a brokerage order ticket, a watchlist does not place trades. It keeps price and day change in one place so you can check the tape without hunting through apps.

This free watchlist saves symbols in your browser and pulls live (or near-live) quotes. No account, no cloud sync, no email gate. Clear site data and the list resets — that is the privacy tradeoff.

Why keep a watchlist?

Most people do not need hundreds of symbols on screen. A tight list of 10–20 names is easier to review before the open, after a news spike, or when you are sizing a new idea. Saving them here means one page instead of five open tabs.

  • Ideas in progress — stocks you researched but have not bought yet.
  • Benchmarks — indexes and ETFs like SPY or QQQ to compare against single names.
  • Holdings you already own — quick price check; use the portfolio tracker when you need cost basis and allocation.
  • Event risk — names near earnings or ex-div; pair with the earnings calendar or dividend calendar.

How to build a useful list

Start small. Add a market ETF, a few liquid large caps you understand, and any tickers you are actively researching. Remove names you never click — a dead watchlist is just noise. When something is moving hard across the market, scan the stock screener for gainers and losers, then add only the ones worth following.

For deeper research on any row, open live stock lookup for charts, P/E, yield, and fundamentals — or compare stocks side by side before you size a trade with the position size calculator.

Watchlist vs portfolio tracker

Use this page to monitor. Use the portfolio tracker to accountfor shares you own: average cost, day P&L, and allocation. Mixing the two jobs in one messy spreadsheet is how beginners lose track of risk. Keep the watchlist light; keep the portfolio honest.

Privacy and data notes

Symbols live only in your browser's localStorage. Quotes come from our market-data API and may be delayed. This is for research and education — not a trading terminal, not investment advice, and not a substitute for your broker's order ticket.
