Stop-Loss Calculator
Free stop-loss calculator for stocks. Convert stop % to price (or price to %), see dollar risk per share and per position. Built to pair with the 1% rule.
Enter entry price and either a stop % or stop price to see dollar risk per share, total risk for your share count, and the stop level that matches a target risk %. Pair with position sizing before you place the order.
What is a stop-loss calculator?
Traders search “where do I put my stop?” because vague exits create vague losses. A stop-loss calculator turns a % (or chart level) into an exact price and shows how much you lose if that stop hits — before you click buy.
Stop-loss formulas
Long stop price = Entry × (1 − stop %)
Risk per share = |Entry − Stop|. Shares for 1% risk = (Account × 0.01) ÷ risk per share.
Example: entry $100, 5% stop → $95. Risk $5/share. On a $10,000 account at 1% risk ($100), buy 20 shares — not 100.
How to use this free stop loss tool
- Enter entry and choose % or price mode.
- Confirm the stop is on the correct side of the market (below for longs).
- Check dollar risk at your intended share count.
- If risk is too high, cut shares using the suggested count — or open the position size calculator.
- Confirm reward potential with the risk reward calculator.
Stops that fail beginners
- Stops under obvious round numbers everyone else uses — liquidity hunts happen.
- No thesis invalidation — a stop should mean “I’m wrong,” not “it tickled my feelings.”
- Moving the stop farther after entry without shrinking size — silent risk creep.
