What is a stock profit calculator?
A stock profit calculator (or stock P&L calculator) tells you how much money you made or lost on a trade after shares, prices, and fees. Instead of mental math — “100 shares from $150 to $180 is…?” — you get net profit, percent return, and the break-even sell price in seconds.
Stock profit formula
Net profit = Sale proceeds − Total cost + Dividends
Sale proceeds = sell price × shares − sell fees. Total cost = buy price × shares + buy fees. Return % = net profit ÷ total cost. Example: buy 100 shares at $50 ($5,000), sell at $60 ($6,000), $0 fees → $1,000 profit = +20%.

Why break-even price matters
Fees quietly raise the price you need to exit at. If you ignore commissions, a “small winner” can be flat or negative. The break-even sell price shows the line in the sand — useful when you’re deciding whether to hold for a bit more or cut a loser.
Stock profit vs portfolio return
This tool is for a single closed (or planned) trade. Your overall account return can look different once you mix winners, losers, cash drag, and new deposits. Track holdings in the portfolio tracker and annualize longer stretches with CAGR when the time horizon is years, not days.
